Metallic zinc powder is a form of zinc. Ultrafine zinc powder has a wide range of uses in production and life, especially in mercury free batteries, chemicals, dyes, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, coatings, paints, insurance powder, Lithopone, electronics and food industries. The price of zinc powder is slightly lower than that of ordinary hair. The price advantage makes the market demand for zinc powder particularly strong. So the production of epoxy zinc rich zinc powder has become an urgent problem to be solved.
There are three methods for producing zinc powder, namely atomization method (conventional atomization method and combined atomization method), distillation condensation method, and electrolysis method.
The atomization method is to melt and overheat metal zinc to about 660 ℃, and atomize the zinc liquid into fine metal powder using a high-pressure gas medium. The production process of atomization method is simple, easy to operate, low in cost, and high in productivity, but the average particle size of zinc powder using conventional atomization method is larger, and the yield of fine powder is lower.
Distillation condensation method is a method of heating metal zinc to above 1000 ℃, volatilizing zinc vapor, and then condensing to obtain zinc powder. The zinc powder produced has good activity, but the process requires high raw materials.
Zinc powder produced by electrolysis generally has a large specific surface area and good activity, but due to environmental reasons, its current application is still limited.
Because the atomization method has many advantages in producing zinc powder, while the traditional atomization method has shortcomings, various combination atomization processes have been developed in the market, greatly improving atomization efficiency and increasing the yield of fine powder. The most prominent one is the multi-stage atomization process, which has a powder yield of over 90% for 10-20um. The multi-stage atomization process can be divided into two stages as follows: the first stage is the ordinary gas atomization, the Jet stream and the metal liquid flow to break it into small droplets. The second stage is shock atomization and centrifugal atomization, where high-speed metal droplets impact the rotating device to form secondary or multiple atomizations. In the process of multistage atomization, there are many Branching process, such as droplet breaking, heat transfer, and droplet solidification. They coexist in the system and interact with each other, determining the particle size and microstructure of the powder.
However, this method is slightly more complex and has strict requirements for the process. The resulting zinc powder quality is also relatively high, making it one of the most commonly used zinc powder production methods
